LMS Web News January 25th, 2010

Our Academic Team had its first competition last Thursday, we won two of six games against Lawson. They play again Monday at Mid-Buchanan and Thursday at East Buchanan. Good Luck!

We have an early out this Wednesday, the 27th and also next Wednesday, February 3rd.

We started our DEAL Time last week. At the end of the day on Wednesday and Friday we take a group of students that were close to scoring proficient on last year's MAP test and give them some extra instruction on the test and test taking strategies. The different groups are 7th and 8th Communication Arts, 7th and 8th Math and 8th grade Science.

Over the last couple of weeks all of our students have been taking Benchmark Tests on our Study Island program. If you have an Internet connection ask your student to log in and show you his/her results. The benchmark tests are sort of like mini MAP tests that show our students progress throughout the year. This is our third of four rounds of testing.

Our sixth graders are working on music from the 40's and 50's for their February 23rd Concert. If anyone has any special interest of music or musical talent concerning music from that era and you would like to share it with our kids, please contact Mrs. Bennett.

LMS Web News January 19, 2010

Our Academic Team starts competition this week with a match at home against Lawson. There are only about 12 6th – 8th graders out this year. Mrs. Spurgeon and Mrs. Hieronymus coach our team.

Our next dance is February 5th from 7 – 10 p.m. This will be our Valentine’s Dance and we would like for the kids to dress up a bit. No Jeans, Shorts or T-shirts. If your child will have a problem with this dress code, please give Mr. Fine or Miss Jones a call ASAP so we can help you out.

Many of you may received an e-mail from our new GradeWatch system. This is an assignment tracking software that helps us, and you, keep track of missing assignments and ZAP work. If we have an email address on file for you, you will receive and email anytime your child is missing an assignment, whether it is for absence or for ZAP. You will get the email everyday that the assignment is still missing.

If you need to update or add an email address, or a phone number for that matter, please call our office at 528-7600. Thanks!

Weekly News January 4, 2010

Happy New Year to Everyone! We resolve to work with all of you to make 2010 a highly successful year for all of our students!

First semester grade cards will be sent home with the kids on January 7th. If you don’t get your students report, please let us know and we can send it or email it. It is exciting to be back at school and hear all about everyone’s Christmas break. Lots of new clothes and toys being displayed!

We are offering our spring “casual” pictures this Friday starting at 1:00. Any student that wants to can get his/her picture taken. You will then receive the “proofs” in a couple of weeks with the opportunity to purchase pictures if you’d like. Kids do not need to bring money at this time.
During January and February our students are able to participate in Science Olympiad and Academic Team. Both of these activities are in full swing. Students would still be able to be on the Academic Team if they’d like. The first contest for them is January 21.

Weekly News January 11th

We sure didn’t get much done last week with all of the snow days. We hope that this week we can to get back into our routines.

We did send grade cards home on Wednesday before we let out. If your child didn’t make it home with one please let us know and we’ll send you a new one.

Mrs. O’Connor did take time over the days off to run the new Renaissance Rewards Color Card Reports. We will be updating those on Monday. The new eligibility list will be out as well as notifying those ineligible students. (All with an F or poor citizenship).
