Middle School Events 2/15/2010

Due to our snow day last Monday, we are having school today, Monday, February 15th.

Our sixth graders are working on music from the 40's and 50's for their March 2nd Concert. If anyone has any special interest of music or musical talent concerning music from that era and you would like to share it with our kids, please contact Mrs. Bennett.

We moved our Spelling Bee to Tuesday, February 16th, due to the weather last Monday. It will still begin at 7:00.

Parent-Teacher Conferences went great last week. I heard about many good conversations between teachers and parents. Lots of great ideas on how to improve what we are doing to help the kids. This week will get started implementing those ideas.

We have not decided on a date to make-up the dance yet. We should decide this week.

Coach Tichenor will be taking our 8th Graders to Snow Creek for skiing on February, 26th. All 8th graders received the information and permission slips a couple of weeks ago. This is always a fun trip! Here's a tip I hope we remember on the 26th...WEAR SUNCREEN! The last two years we have had kids return with terrible sun/wind burns on their faces. Parents: Please get those papers signed and returned to the school ASAP.

Not much more for news. Academic Team is over and Track doesn't start for a couple of weeks so we're kind of in between activities right now. A good time to focus on student learning!

Spelling Bee Results

The Lathrop School District Spelling Bee was held Tuesday, February 16th. The top four places in each grade were:

5th grade: 1st - Andrew Martin, 2nd - Brandon Hallock, 3rd - Connor Gilzean and alternate Natalie McDowell

6th grade: 1st - Dakota Stubler, 2nd - Sterling Evans, 3rd - Dakota May and alternate Hannah Hartzell

7th grade: 1st - Grant Berg, 2nd - Reagan Hale, 3rd - Jackson White and Drake Higgins alternate.

8th grade finalists: 1st - Annie Schmitz, 2nd - Katie Cordray, 3rd - Josh Paxton and Ben Peterson - alternate.

The top three in each grade advance to the County Spelling Bee on Thursday, Febraury 18th in Plattsburg.

We've moved the 6th Grade Music Program to 6:30 on March 2nd in the Performing Arts Center.
